Introduction to the DRS - Digital Reproduction System

What is the DRS system ?
The Digital Reproduction System is an integrated and complete system for reproduction of originals up to the double A0 format.
The DRS is the perfect integration of very powerful independent elements, such as the DRC (Digital Repro Camera), the SynchroLight lighting system, a motorized reprocamera holding system and a reproduction table, all included in a very compact and solid body structure. This allows the DRS system to provide unmatchable performances in terms of resolution, image quality and productivity. A very user friendly software interface and the unique compactness of the entire system, are the final characteristic that makes the DRS the most advanced and valuable digital system in the reproduction market.
Major application of the DRS system are the reproduction of : maps, painting, fabrics, fine arts, carpets, textile, architectural drawings, etc.
Which is the relationship between the DRS and the DRC system ?
The DRC is one of the elements of the DRS system. Actually it is the heart of the system, as it contains the CCD sensor, the precision mechanic and a Metis proprietary electronic. However, due to its particular design the DRC can be also used as an independent high resolution and high quality stand alone digital camera, that can easily fit in any existing reproduction environment, with no needs of major changes.
Very important to note is that, when used in the DRS system, due to the perfect integration with the other elements, the DRC can reach its maximum performances in terms of quality and productivity.
Is the DRS system customizable ?
Yes. Thanks to its design you can customize your DRS system. As an example you can easily remove the DRS reproduction table and use other accessories such as vacuum tables, book cradles etc. You can also deactivate the SynchroLight system and use a different light source that your application might need.
What does the DRS includes ?
The DRS system includes :
A complete DRC Digital Repro Camera system which includes :
A state of the art CCD sensor and a special electronic designed by Metis which allows outstanding performances
A high precision mechanic to provide accurate geometry, parallelism and repeatability
An interchangeable optical system which allows to use the best available and most suitable lens for your application.
An automatic and very accurate focusing system which allows also selective focus and live video
A DOUBLE A0 Reproduction Table which can be easily adjusted to accept originals with different thickness. If different accessories, as vacuum tables or book cradles are requested, the DRS table can be removed in a matter of seconds, thanks to integrated wheels.
A motorized Repro Camera holding system, allows the set up of the optical magnification in order to optimize the resolution .
The DRS SynchroLight system which consist in a "light blade" that runs over the original in perfect synchronization with the CCD sensor of the DRC. Completely designed by Metis, the SynchroLight, which has a very low power consumption, allows unmatchable performances respect to any traditional lighting system. Other big advantages of the SynchroLight are : the compactness, therefore much less space requirement compared to any other lighting solution, an unmatchable light uniformity over the scan surface, the original is exposed to the light for a very short time, and in any case, thanks to the Metis proprietary optical design, the light issued by the blade is pratically free from Infrared and UV.
The DRS structure, which is the body of the system, compact and solid includes, in a perfect manner, all the DRS elements.
A special PCI board that allows long cables, very high and sustained scan speed and a reliable interface to the DRC system.
The DRC software and drivers.
Cables and power supplier.
What else do I need to properly run the DRS system ?
Only a computer !
Additional accessories for the DRS system are also available from Metis on request.
